Got Sun-Damaged Skin? Revitalize Your Complexion with a Plexr Plasma Treatment

Got Sun-Damaged Skin? Revitalize Your Complexion with a Plexr Plasma Treatment

Warm sunshine might feel good on your skin, but there’s no denying it can cause damage. While most of us are familiar with sunburn and its painful effects, that’s not the only kind of damage the sun can cause. Rays of ultraviolet (UV) radiation penetrate your skin, causing structural changes that lead to rapid skin aging, along with lines, wrinkles, and sagging.

Sun exposure is responsible for about 90% of the visible changes you see in your skin as you get older — so-called photoaging. And unfortunately, no amount of moisturizers or anti-aging serums can reverse those changes, but Plexr® treatment can.

Rodrigo Belalcazar, MD, PLLC, and our team at Advanced Eye Center in Hialeah, Florida, use the advanced Plexr skin-tightening system to tighten sagging skin and smooth out wrinkles left behind by years of sun exposure.

Here, learn how Plexr works to “undo” sun damage, leaving your skin looking and feeling healthier and younger.

How sun damage happens

UV radiation is readily absorbed by your skin. Once it reaches the deeper layers of tissue, it targets and damages fibers of collagen and elastin.

These proteins provide structural support for skin, keeping it firm, smooth, and resilient. As collagen and elastin fibers weaken and break down, your skin becomes more prone to lines, wrinkles, and sagging.

UV damage also makes it harder for your skin to retain moisture, resulting in rough spots and uneven skin texture. Some people experience changes in skin color, too, developing hyperpigmented patches called sun spots (or sometimes age spots).

Sun damage is cumulative, meaning it builds up over the years. Even if you’re careful about protecting your skin now, sun exposure during your younger years can still cause damage that doesn’t show up until later — when it’s too late to prevent it from happening.

Fortunately, Plexr treatment can help rejuvenate sun-damaged skin without invasive surgery or prolonged recovery time.

How Plexr works

Plexr stands for plasma exeresis, which means using plasma energy to remove tissue — in this case, tissue damaged by the sun. The Plexr system uses a focused arc of plasma energy to create tiny microinjuries in your skin. In turn, these injuries stimulate natural healing responses in the deeper layers of skin, jump-starting collagen and elastin production.

Each Plexr session takes about 30-60 minutes, depending on the area being treated, and we numb your skin first using a topical cream to keep you comfortable.

Once your treatment is complete, plasma energy leaves behind tiny dots that crust and flake off over the next few days. Leave them be — they’re part of your skin’s natural healing process.

In addition to those tiny dots, you can expect temporary redness and mild swelling. These also disappear after a day or two, and you can gently apply ice to the area if you’d like.

There’s no downtime, so you can get right back to your routine. You can expect to see firmer, smoother skin once healing is complete — typically within several weeks.

Plexr can be used in most areas of the body, even the delicate skin around your eyes. In fact, plasma eye lifts are a popular alternative to surgical blepharoplasty for many women and men. Better still, treatments can be repeated, so you can achieve just the amount of correction you’re looking for.
